HOUSTON, Tx, February 25, 2005 -- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) (www.nasa.gov) selected Futron Corporation (Futron) as the recipient of its prestigious Space Act Award for Futron's Integrated Risk Management Application (IRMA). IRMA is a web based risk management tracking and communication system that complements enterprise risk management.

The NASA Space Act NASA's Space Act Award honors outstanding scientific or technical contributions sponsored, adopted, supported, or used by NASA that are significant to aeronautics and space activities. "NASA needed a web-based application, that allowed the geographically dispersed program teams to apply their expertise locally, while coordinating nationally, to address the intricacies of each unique risk," said Scott Field, Futron IRMA Development Manager. "IRMA not only tracks the life cycle of a risk, it also enables a communication process that is critical to the success of virtual teams."

Futron collaborated with Jeevan Perera, PhD, NASA Manager for Center Risk at the Johnson Space Center and the former International Space Station (ISS) risk manager, to design architect and build IRMA as the cornerstone of a new process to deliberately and aggressively control risks to ISS goals. IRMA was originally designed under the support contract for the ISS, between JSC and Futron. "Although we originally designed IRMA for the ISS program to use, its ease of use and success on that program allowed us to deploy versions for both the Space Shuttle Program and the Johnson Space Center as a whole to track their risks," Field said. "Because it's easy to scale and tailor for unique needs, we have also created versions of IRMA for 5other smaller NASA programs and projects. We're excited that NASA recognized IRMA with this award and we're looking forward to expanding the application of IRMA to other programs."
